Objectives: Students will recognize that psychology has many subfields that emphasize both research and application of psychological issues.

Warm Up: Why did you sign up for this psych class?

BRAINSTORM! What kind of work do psychologists do? Where do psychologists work? Are there any special fields in psychology…if so name some? http://www.apa.org/about/division/index.aspx What’s the difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist? What’s the difference between a school guidance counselor and a psychologist?

BRAINSTORM! What kind of work do psychologists do? Counsel, teach, research, write 3 classifications: Practitioners Academics Researchers Where do psychologists work? Hospitals, universities, labs, private practice, schools, govt agencies, businesses, correctional facilities
