What is technology? How technology makes schools more productive The role of technology in the economy

TECHNOLOGY The economy needs technology that is continually developed for people to find better ways of doing things Technology means that something can be done in a way that rests on scientific knowledge that can be used in a practical way to improve our productivity

Examples of how technology in the school can help us to work more productively: Paper punch can be used to punch holes in paper Stapler is used to staple papers together Pens that do no have to be refilled all the time, but are cheap and can be thrown away if they are empty Computers that are used to do daily tasks faster, for example to calculate marks quickly or to do the budget of the school Fax machines that can be used to send letters quickly instead of using slow postal services Telephones that can be used to speak to people over long distances Photocopiers that can be used to make a quick print of something so that it does not have to be rewritten Printers that can make cheap and quick printouts of lessons so that teachers can hand them to pupils

ROLE OF TECHNOLOGY IN THE ECONOMY Technology is important as it refers to any technology that increases productivity and factors of production to help increase economic activity Examples of technology to make businesses more productive: Scanners in supermarkets that make it unnecessary for someone to type the prices in by hand which is very slow Machines in factories instead of doing repetitive work by hand Internet for entrepreneurs that means that they can communicate easily and can advertise their products Farmers use machinery to make farming more productive and efficient
