Crosswalk Basics Standards for the 21st Century Learner National Common Core Standards Crosswalk of Common Core Standards and the Standards for the 21st Century Learner, 2009 Background: Our lesson seeds will be built from the results of a combination of several documents: Standards for the 21st century learner, national common core standards (crosswalk) – written in 2009 AND the MD Common Core Standards

What does this look like in Maryland’s classrooms? Crosswalk Basics Crosswalk of Common Core Standards and the Standards for the 21st Century Learner (AASL) This is a snippet from the AASL/Common Core Crosswalk. It aligns the standards but does not dig deep enough into either standard to reveal important information for the educator. Grade-Level BENCHMARKS? What does this look like in Maryland’s classrooms?

Common Core: English/Language Arts K-12 Frameworks: Reading Literature Reading Informational Text Reading Foundational Skills Writing Speaking and Listening Language Taking a closer look at English/LA common core – it includes the following frameworks:

Reading Informational Text Question In which English/LA frameworks do library media standards appear most? Todaysmeet.com/CCCW Of all the frameworks – which ones do you believe contain the most library media standards? Writing Speaking and Listening Reading Informational Text

Crosswalk Basics Crosswalk of Common Core Standards and the Standards for the 21st Century Learner English/LA Reading Standards for Literacy History/SS Reading Standards for Literacy Science/Technical Writing Standards for Literacy in History/SS/Science/Technical Mathematics We are beginning with AASL lesson seeds for English/La – but, there will be more – connections to history, science, social studies, writing and mathematics

Crosswalk Basics: Dig Deeper into AASL: Benchmarks AASL1.1.7 Skill þ: Make sense of information gathered from diverse sources by identifying misconceptions, main and supporting ideas, conflicting information, and point of view or bias. AASL Grade Level Benchmark (Grade 2) Summarize or retell key points. AASL Grade Level Benchmark (Grade 5) Recognize when facts from two different sources conflict and seek additional sources to verify accuracy Recognize their own misconceptions when new information conflicts with previously held opinions ASSL Skills: Come directly from AASL. Includes benchmarks for grades 2, 5, 8, 10, and 12. This gives the educator a glimpse into how the skill progresses through the grade levels. Allowing for opportunities to differentiate. A skill is designated by a checkmark.

Crosswalk Basics: Dig Deeper into AASL: Benchmarks AASL1.1.7 Skill þ: Make sense of information gathered from diverse sources by identifying misconceptions, main and supporting ideas, conflicting information, and point of view or bias.
