Author: Fred Gipson Fred Gipson was a talented man. He enjoyed writing Old Yeller.

Setting When: It took place in the 1860’s. Where: Salt Lakes, Texas.

Characters Old Yeller: He was a brave dog who would not let danger near them. Travis: He was a 14 year old boy who took after his Papa. Mama: She was a good women who knew how to take care of stuff. Lisbeth: She was a helpful girl who took after Bud Searcy. Little Arliss: He was a 6 year old little boy who ran around naked all the time

Characters Papa: He was a brave man who loved his family very much.

Author’s Purpose The author purpose was to entertain readers with a book about a yeller dog who watched out for his family and would n’ t let danger near them.

Sequence Papa leaves and goes to the cattle drive in Kansas and leaves Travis in charge. Travis find Old Yeller on the porch. Travis goes hunting for a deer and he gets a deer and brings it home. He and Little Arliss was playing in the drinking water. Then they saw the two bulls fight and Roley gets thrown in the creek. Little Arliss grabs the bear cubs foot and it made the she bear mad so she came running to Little Arliss and Old Yeller has to fight her off. Rosey had her calf. Travis had to shoot Rosey because she would n’t feed her calf.

Sequence When Spot the heifer would not let Travis milk her Yeller would bite her nose to keep her still while Travis milked her. Then Spot got hydrophobia and would not feed her calf so she went crazy and they had to shoot her. Travis and Yeller had to go mark the hogs and they got done with the first batch of hogs and then Bud Searcy told him about some more hogs he missed. Travis and Yeller got hurt when they went to mark the other hogs. Travis fell off the cliff and got cut by a hog and Old Yeller almost died when he got cut by the hogs.

Sequence Old Yeller got in a fight with a wolf and Old Yeller got him down and Travis shot the wolf.

Compare/Contrast Travis and Little Arliss. Travis is a 14 year old boy he is more mature than Little Arliss. Little Arliss is a 6 year old little boy he was nothing like Travis he runs around naked all the time.

Theme One Theme is don’t worry about the bad things or it will ruin the good things. And another is Travis’s indevors throughout the book, encouraged his maturity.

Summary This book is about a dog that comes up to a little house and they call him their pet. They say he would be a good dog to have.
