Teaching and learning approaches Literacy and Mathematics learning is incorporated throughout the day. Children are provided with large blocks of time for inquiry and play-based learning that follows the interest of the children, but is also planned and purposeful. The day includes a balance of whole group, small group and individual instruction.

Teaching and learning approaches The Full-Day Early Leaning program consists of a balance of exploration, instruction and direct instruction. Children may need many opportunities to explore and investigate. The Kindergarten program is full-day, inquiry and play-based. The curriculum is available at http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/kindergarten/ We know that through play-based learning and a culture of inquiry, children develop a strong foundation for learning in all areas

The four frames of the Kindergarten program 1. Belonging and Contributing This frame encompasses children’s learning and development with respect to: their relationships with others, and their contributions as a part of a group, community, and the natural world

The four frames of the Kindergarten program 2. Self-Regulation and Well-Being This frame encompasses children’s learning and development with respect to: their own thinking and feeling, and their recognition of and respect for the differences in the thinking and feeling of others

The four frames of the Kindergarten program 3. Demonstrating Literacy and Math Behaviours This frame encompasses children’s learning and development with respect to: literacy behaviours, evident in the various ways they use language and think critically about ideas and emotions as the listen, speak and begin to read and write math behaviours, evident in the various ways they use concepts of number and pattern during play and inquiry

The four frames of the Kindergarten program 4. Problem Solving and Innovating This frame encompasses children’s learning and development with respect to: making meaning of the world by asking questions, testing theories, solving problems, and engaging in creative and analytical thinking

Birthdays This year as a school we will celebrate birthdays, however no outside food will be allowed for birthday celebrations.  This will not impact pre-planned classroom parties (like the holiday and Halloween celebrations) Instead of bringing food, we suggest that you can donate a book, a game, or a piece of sports equipment to celebrate your child's birthday if you wish
