Snapshot Undergraduate Program 100-130 graduates/year 129 credits, 6 of which must be design credits Design Options Design Team – 50% Senior Design – 25% Capstone Design – 15% Honors Instrumentation -10% ABET 3a)-3k) – a, i, f, d, d, tt, t, r, cs, l, v Apply, integrate, formulate, design, design, tools&techniques, teamwork, responsibility, contemporary, society, lifelong, verbal skills

What is Design Team Competitive undergraduate design program Five students per team in Fall Up to eight students in Spring 10-12 teams annually (One FTE) 14 teams in 2015-2016 with 1.5 FTE Students choose from among “vetted” projects bedside to bench to bedside ~20% projects global health since 2008

Novel Feature Hierarchical team –Team Leaders (seniors and juniors) selected in prior Fall term Students apply and are interviewed by three faculty – 40% accepted Informal training in Spring term Becoming one-credit course in Spring 2016 (for 2106-2017 academic year) Students select teams in Spring Project selection continues from Spring through Fall

Outcomes Success? Five start-up companies ~Two dozen licensed to commercial enterprises Three Issued patents (since 2003) >Dozen pending National Design Awards > 40 Grants/Awards > $1M Success?

Team Leader Alumni Perceptions Leading a team: 100% Decision making, mentoring and teaching: 100% Solving a clinical problem: 81% Receiving feedback from a variety of levels: 79% 2012 survey of >700 DT alumni since 1998, 100 TLs. ~14% response rate.
