Topic The History of the UAE

L.O. I know when human beings first lived in the UAE Week 2, Lesson 1 L.O. I know when human beings first lived in the UAE

The Stone Age Archaelogists have found artifacts and evidence that proves that people lived in what is now the UAE around 7500 years ago. This time was called the ‘Stone Age’.

Why is it called the ‘Stone Age’? The ‘Stone Age’ was called this because people had learned to use stone to make simple tools to help them to hunt, cook and make fire. The correct name for these people is ‘neolithic man’, but we often hear the term ‘caveman’ because these people sheltered in caves.

Stone Tools Cavemen used stone called ‘flint’ to help them to make fire. When you strike these together, you can make a spark. Watch the video to see people nowadays using a flint to start a fire. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7n2KNg2ssA

Other Stone Tools The picture shows some other stone tools that were used by cavemen. What do you think they were used for?

Your Task You are going to make a model of a stone tool using a paper template. The tool is a weapon called a spear it was used for hunting animals

L.O. I know that the weather in the UAE has changed over time Week 2, Lesson 2 L.O. I know that the weather in the UAE has changed over time

Weather in the UAE Today, the weather in the UAE is hot and dry. Most of the UAE is covered by desert.

It was not like this 7500 years ago! In the Stone Age, the weather was different. We call the weather of a place it’s ‘Climate.’ The UAE had a much wetter climate, so there were more plants and animals.

Food for Cavemen! Cavemen in the stone age would eat fruit, seeds, eggs (stolen from nests) and they would hunt animals for meat. Cavemen might catch fish or use spears to kill land animals such as the Mammoth:

Mammoths A Mammoth is the name we give to a huge animal, like a fur covered elephant, that lived in the Stone Age. There are no mammoths alive today. Who has seen the movie ‘Ice Age’ or the skeleton of a mammoth in Marina Mall, Abu Dhabi? Watch this animation of what a mammoth might have looked like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v =ea2EZBTbUJA

Your Task You are going to make a model of a mammoth, using a paper template.
