Meeting with Sector Partners Portland, Maine Summer, 2017 Topics Our Shared Workforce Challenges How Sector Partners can collaborate with MHWF to support recruitment (inside and outside of Maine) and career development initiatives

Shared Workforce Challenges Critical Positions (identified by Sector Partners) C.N.A.s, RNs, Medical Assistants, Pharmacy, Surgical Techs, Behavioral Health workers, APPs (Mid Level Practitioners),Respiratory Techs, I.S., Entry Level (EVS, Dietary), Patient Service Reps, Practice Managers, Clinical Leaders, Allied Health First and second year turnover Professional development opportunities; building culture of support for career advancement Non robust succession plans Insufficient programs to help us fast track/map Veterans and immigrants into Medical Assistant and ED Tech positions, etc. Paying for education up front in lieu of traditional tuition reimbursement models

Opportunities for Collaboration with MHWF Formalize a state-wide program to educate high school students about various careers in the healthcare environment. E.g. What is a med tech and what education is needed? What healthcare careers have growth/promotional opportunities? Help fund educational programs to train nurses for faculty positions Continue to work with Joan Dolan on apprentice opportunities across the State Help fund programs that offer financial assistance to healthcare employees who need to complete degrees and have been identified as high potentials Create a training program for Patient Service Reps to include Microsoft and spreadsheets. PRS jobs are much more complicated and technology- heavy now, requiring more than entry level skills.

Next Steps/Recommendations Talent Acquisition Sector Partners are interested in continuing small group, 2-hour meetings (maybe quarterly) in lieu of full day summits Recommendation: Invite guests/Subject Matter Experts to quarterly meetings and develop plans. Topics to include Pipeline Programs in Maine (Maine AHEC Network) Apprentice programs JMG Fame Working with the immigrant and Veteran populations on transferable skills Grant opportunities Other Thank you for your partnership!
