Ratios and Proportional Relationships Using fractions, decimals, and percent to represent equal numeric relationships.

Essential Question What is the difference between ratios, rates, unit rates, and proportions?

Ratio and Rates Pat’s Flower Shop specializes in growing and selling large daisies. On a typical summer day, you may hear a florist say one of these statements: In the Daisy Smile Bouquet, there are 2 white daisies for every 3 orange daisies. In the Daisy Smile Bouquet, 2 out of every 5 daises are white. Five daisies cost $7.50. There are 10 daisies in a small vase.

Vocabulary Ratio: A comparison of two quantities using the same unit of measure. Relación: Una comparación de dos cantidades usando la misma unidad de medida. Part to Part Ratio: In the Daisy Smile Bouquet, there are 2 white daises for every 3 orange daisies. Relación de parte a parte: en el ramo de la sonrisa de Margarita, hay 2 margaritas blancas para cada 3 margaritas naranja. Part to Whole Ratio: In the Daisy Smile Bouquet, 2 out of every 5 daisies are white. Parte entera de la relación: en el ramo de la sonrisa de Margarita, 2 de cada 5 margaritas son de color blanco.

part part whole There are three ways that you can write a Ratio: words, colon, fraction 2 white daisies to every 3 orange daisies 2 white daisies : 3 orange daisies 2 white daisies 3 orange daisies part part whole Do not write ratios as mixed numbers they should be improper fractions. OR

Do not write ratios as mixed numbers they should be improper fractions.

Write the following statement in 3 different ways: In the Daisy Smile Bouquet, 2 out of every 5 daisies are white

Complete the model for each question using the ratio given Complete the model for each question using the ratio given. Then discuss with your partner how to find the answer and calculate it. In any size of the Daisy Smile Bouquet, 2 out of every 5 daisies are white.   1. How many total daisies are there if 8 daisies are white? 2. How many daisies are white if there are a total of 25 daisies?
