Presentation transcript:

Veterinarians By: Abby Bennin

Introduction Veterinarians use tools and machines each day in attempt to help heal animals of all kinds. In the future, veterinarians will need to continue their training to work with tools more specialized for helping animals.“Veterinarians diagnose and treat diseases and dysfunctions of animals.” (U.S Bureau). They also do simple check-ups to make sure if your pet is coming down with a sickness, they can treat it even before symptoms start to show.

What Vets Do The job of a veterinarian definitely isn’t as easy as it seems. Putting bandages on wounds is barely half the job. Vets diagnose medicines, perform surgeries, do check-ups, and some will even groom your animal. Grooming includes baths, nail- clipping, teeth cleaning, and fur-styling. So really, putting a bandage on a cut is more like the “new guy” job.

Tools they use The tools which veterinarians use are based on what the animal being cared for is. For larger animals with hooves, vets will use hoof picks. For small animals with claws, specialized nail clippers will be used. Then there are the more universal tools such as brushes, ear syringes, washcloth, and tweezers. In order to care for big problems, vets use cat-scans, x- ray machines which are both portable and stationary, casts, and bandages. There are probably a lot more tools, but for day-to-day problems, these are the most common.

Where They Work “Veterinarians usually treat pets in hospitals and clinics.”(Netvet). There are a lot of more exotic vets which work at zoos caring for more uncommon animals. If vets would like to care for the exotic animals without leaving their workplace, they may take private lessons at their work to care for animals like lizards, snakes, and parrots.

Training/Schooling “In order to become a veterinarian, students must have a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and be licensed.” (Princeton Review). This means that they need a license from the state in which they wish to practice in. The DVM degree takes from 6 to 8 years to get. To get into one of the schools which provide these degrees, you must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher to be accepted. Getting a license from the state only really takes a day.

Impact of veterinarians on us Veterinarians have effected pet owners’ lives in many ways. Back before vets, when your pet was sick, it was a goner. Now, all you have to do is bring it to the vet for the treatment it requires! But, unfortunately, you have to be willing to pay the expensive bill…

Future Job Now, it’s time I describe what the future veterinarian may be like. As I had said before, in the future, veterinarians will need to continue their training to work with tools more specialized for helping animals. The tools which were used will most likely be updated soon. These tools will make surgeries and other problems faster and will cut costs if these ideas are used.

What Will This Job Be Called? Well, there may or may not be a new name. Personally, I think “veterinarian” is just fine. Unless somebody comes up with some other name that sounds more futuristic, but I honestly don’t think it would be that great of a change. Plus, there isn’t much of a point to change it. For example, you could change the spelling! Although I don’t think this was meant to be spelled differently…

Schooling For New Job Since the machines and tools would be changing, you would definitely need to be taught how to use them. No matter if you’re a new veterinarian or if you’ve been a veterinarian for years. The training may take hours, days, weeks, even months! It would all depend on how complex the new devices are, and how many of them are made.

Technology Being Used/ Replaced Veterinarians could perform laser surgeries, they could get some sort of new material for casts or bandages, and they could send you your bills and records electronically! I’m sure there are so many more improvements to be made, but those are the most basic that I could come up with.

How Does This Job Change The Original Job And What Benefits Does It Provide Over The Existing Job? There are a lot of ways that this job is better than the original. By using laser surgery, a lot of time can be saved. By using a new cast and bandage material, the casts could be lighter. By sending you your records and bills electronically, that can save time and money. This is because it would send and be retrieved almost instantaneously, and it also means that nobody has to pay for postage stamps! In the future, veterinarians will be new and improved, helping animals faster, easier, and cheaper.
