Narrative conventions

Narrative conventions: conflict Most narratives are based around conflicts. This is a convention. The conflicts can be the internal conflicts faced by the characters, or external conflicts. These external conflicts can be between individuals, between groups, between countries, or between different social issues. Often the conflict is framed around good v evil

Narrative conventions: internal conflicts Neo What is the personal conflict he faces in the story? How do we know this (consider actions, facial expressions, dialogue) How does the way he deals with this conflict add interest to the story.

Narrative conventions: external conflict The Matrix Neo, Morpheus, Trinity and the others against the agents, and the centinels – the beings who have taken control of humans and created the Matrix. Good v evil When we go deeper we also see a conflict between what is real and what is not real, between the matrix world and the real world

Narrative conventions: internal conflicts Deckard What is the personal conflict he faces in the story? How do we know this (consider actions, facial expressions, dialogue) How does the way he deals with this conflict add interest to the story.
