Read the article and answer the questions: What do the students in this article think about the school uniforms? The students think the uniforms are ugly. 2. What kind of clothes do they usually wear? They usually want to wear their own clothes or they want to be allowed to design their own uniforms.

3. How do they like to study? They like to study in groups during the evening. 4. What are their ideas about vacations? They think vacations should be longer and longer vacations would give them time to do things like volunteering.

Underline the key phrases. allow sb. to do get noisy learn from sb. at present have an opportunity to do the other day would like to do concentrate on be good for keep sb. happy

Explain some difficult sentences. Our teachers believe that if we did that, we would concentrate more on our clothes than our studies. If we can’t do that, we should be allowed to design our own uniforms. It’s also probably a good idea for parents to allow teenagers to study in groups during the evening. Longer vacations would give us time to do things like volunteering.

Should Students Wear School Uniform? As we all know, wearing school uniforms is indispensable for Japanese students, whereas for American students, it is not such a case, so should Chinese students wear school uniforms? Some believe in the advantages of wearing school uniforms. Firstly, wearing uniforms can cultivate collective spirit, which is typical of Japanese students. Secondly, schools can be kept in good order with

students wearing uniforms since the outsiders will be recognized immediately. Besides, wearing school uniforms can help students develop simple life habits. However, others don’t think so. They claim that wearing school uniforms will deprive students of individuality, which is always the source of amazing creativity. As for collective spirit, attending sports games seems to be more effective, and wearing school uniforms doesn’t result in simple life habit as we expect.

Pros Cons 3.

Passage I I think young people should be allowed to choose what they wear at school. All students have the right to feel comfortable in their own clothes. Most students think that they look stupid in their uniform and sometimes it is hard to find the right sizes. Also, some students only have one pair of shorts or pants, so if they get dirty they have to wear a dirty uniform the next day.

Passage II I want to make myself smart. I believe everyone tries to look smart. However, we have to wear uniforms because we are students. Teachers always say uniforms can make students feel proud of their school. Although I don’t like wearing uniforms, I have to because I think it reminds students of the value and history of their school and builds a common spirit of unity among students. We just hope the school can improve the quality of the school uniforms. Then if we all look smart, we will concentrate more on our studies.

Passage III At present, we have to wear uniforms at school. These are the reasons for it. First, it makes students feel proud of their school and builds a common spirit of unity among students. It also can remind students of the value and history of their school. But students disagree. They think the colors are simple. They have boring designs and bad quality, they want to wear their own clothes. I think the school should improve the quality of the school uniforms.

Revision of Section B get to class late 上课迟到 take a test 考试 pass a test 考试及格 fail a test 考试不及格 finish a test early 提前答完试卷 strict rules 严格的规章 be strict with sb.

My parents don’t allow me to surf the Internet on school days, which isn’t fair. Neither do I. My mother only allows me to watch TV on Friday nights. I think we should be allowed to do anything. I agree with you.

I don’t agree students should be allowed to have a part- time job, because we’re not old enough. Students should concentrate on study. I think so. But sometimes, we have too many rules. For example, we aren’t allowed to study at a friend’s house. I agree. In fact, it’s a good way to study because we can learn from each other.

Just for fun! Watch the flash and tell the rules.
