Goodbye Middle School! @ Trabuco Hills High School we have… Semester system Online grades Planners 1.5 – 2 hours of homework/study time per night Required grades to move forward in Math and LOTE. Credit Recovery (must make up missed credits) Progress grades mailed home 4 times per semester. 10/10, 11/16, 12/19, 2/8, 3/6, 4/19, 5/15, 6/26

How to Help Your Student: Know your student's schedule. Get to know their teachers by attending evening school events, such as 'Back to School Night'. Check your student's progress on family portal – you can view their on-line grade book.  Check to see if your student's teachers or counselor have web pages where they post class assignments, due dates or other information. Check planners nightly for homework and upcoming tests. Check homework for completion. Be sure that your child is in school every day - Attendance is a huge predictor of academic success!

Introduction to Naviance A college and career planning platform.   Family Connection Family Connection is a Naviance website for students and families that gives you access to online resources, communication tools and planning tools for your student’s success after high school. Meet individual learning plan requirements.   Academic Planning Meet career and technical education Career Exploration Improve and report on college and career readiness. Post-Secondary Preparation Connect learning and life and increase student engagement. Self-Discovery

Student Components Setting Goals: College Readiness: Career Readiness: Explore Colleges and add colleges to their favorites list or the list they’re applying to. Review application requirements and majors. Use the scholarship search to research scholarships. Career Readiness: Take assessments based on personality and interests. Explore different careers and pathways and determine skills needed. Watch inspiring Road Trip Nation videos. Setting Goals: Set goals based on career and college aspirations. Create to-do lists and tasks to help meet goals. Receive task assignments from counselors and district staff.

Parent Components Setting Goals: College Readiness: Career Readiness: Recommend colleges to their child by adding a college to the Colleges I’m thinking about list. Encourage their child to apply to college Use the scholarship search to research scholarships for their child. Career Readiness: Review their students career assessment results. Discuss with their student the careers he or she is interested in. Research career options. Setting Goals: Encourage their child to work on setting realistic goals. Provide encouragement by leaving comments on their student’s goal. Review task that their student needs to complete.

Next Steps Parent will get an email to link to their students account using a provided code in October Students will have there own “Introduction to Naviance” presentation and complete their 4-year plans in their English classroom in October and November From November through June, Counselors will reach out to parents to schedule an individual 4 year plan meeting

Students with involved parents, are more likely to: Earn higher grades and test scores, and enroll in higher-level programs Pass their classes and earn credits Have better social skills, show improved behavior, and adapt well to school. Graduate and go on to postsecondary education
