Patriotic Symbols By: Camden Elkins

Bald Eagle – National Bird of the United States Large, powerful, brown bird with a white head and tail. Became the national bird in 1782. Can only be found in North America. The word bald does not mean that this bird has no feathers. Instead, it comes from the word piebald, an old word which means “marked with white.”

Liberty Bell symbol of freedom in the United States Rang when the Continental Congress signed the Declaration of Independence Made in England in 1752 of copper and tin. After it arrived in the US the Bell cracked. 2 more have been made from the same metal, they have cracked too!

The U.S. Flag Has 13 stripes, seven red and 6 white, the stripes represent the 13 original colonies. 50 stars represent the 50 states of the United States. Was designed in 1777. Stars are added each time a new state joins the union.

The U. S. Seal Created by Benjamin Franklin, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson in 1776. The Great Seal was finalized on June 20, 1782. Reflects independent nation and a free people.

what did I learn? The bald eagle is not really bald! The 50 stars on the US Flag represent the 50 states! We have a US Seal! All three of the Liberty Bells have cracked!
