Educational Games Jennifer N. Hudson, M.Ed.

Benefits of Educational Games Less expensive, more flexible They enhance motivation They help setup engaging scenarios They establish educational goals They help evaluate your learners with many ways Increases a child’s memory Helps with fast strategic thinking and problem-solving

Parlor Games According to the dictionary, parlor games are games that are indoor and usually word games. Some games include: Jeopardy Labs Who Wants to be a Millionaire Wheel of Fortune

Jeopardy Jeopardy Labs allows you to create a customized Jeopardy templates without PowerPoint. They can be played online from anywhere in the world. A designer could also borrow other templates if they don’t want to create their own.

Who Wants to Be a Millionaire The template has questions that are already filled in. The template has sounds, animated graphics, and 12 questions total

Wheel of Fortune The Wheel of Fortune template is user friendly. The template includes Toss Up Rounds, Bonus Round, and the Prize wheel. Real time scores, sound effects, bankrupt, and buy a vowel are some of the other features included.

Role-Playing Games Role-playing allows students to apply what they have learned to make decisions. Some games include: PowerUp Cool School WolfQuest This work can be done in cooperative groups or individually.

PowerUp Is geared towards science and the environment. This game also helps students with learning disabilities.

Cool School Cool School is catered for younger elementary school students. Students can explore social, communication, and problem-solving skills. The program also has rewards students with trophies.

WolfQuest Wolf Quest is able to be used by students as young as fourth grade. This is a science-based game. It is a 3D wildlife game. Students can play as a lone wolf, with a mate, or in a pack.

Mind Games Some mind games include puzzles, brain teasers, and soduko. Some other games include AAA Math, Math-Play, and IXL.

Math-Play Focuses on several important topics related to the math skills needed. Caters to elementary and middle school students It also has Algebra and Geometry/. Easy to access and free

IXL IXL targets the k-12 comprehensive curriculum. It is trusted by educators and parents Gives an explanation when an answer is wrong

AAA Math Covers K-8th grade math curriculum Information is sorted by different topics/skills Students are able to get a mini lesson before starting on activity

Games Some of the games I would include in my classroom would be all of the parlor games and mind games listed in this slideshow. The only mind game I would use is AAA Math. I felt as if there wasn’t enough graphics and audio devices included. I feel as if the role-playing games did not align well with curriculum content. Many of the parlor and mind games were able to be used in content areas. The parlor games had many templates already created and the mind games were free.
