Student Responsibilities Complete and submit the application, essay, and application fee directly to the college through Family Connection or the college-specific application. Request recommendation letters from your teachers through Family Connection. Request official transcript, school profile, secondary school report and counselor recommendation from Mrs. Gassaway-Fields. She will send all documents to the college. Request SAT/ACT scores be sent to colleges by directly contacting the testing organization on-line.

Before Requesting Transcripts 1. Log into your Common App account. If you do not have an account, you'll need to create one. 2. Under the "Common App" tab, complete the entire “Education" section 3. Go to “My Colleges” and through “College Search” add 1 college (Even if you are NOT applying through common app, you need to add a college). *NOTE: If you’re applying to a Common App school, you must apply via the Common App. 4. Click the FERPA Release Authorization, giving Magruder permission to send your transcript to college and select recommenders. Follow the instructions and click these items: I authorize every school that I have attended to release all requested records… I waive my right to review all recommendations and supporting documents… I understand that my waiver or no waiver selection above pertains to all colleges….  

How to Request Transcripts Submit the Transcript Request form and return it to Mrs. Gassaway-Fields Pay your transcript fee to Mrs. Gassaway-Fields. The first 3 transcripts are free; additional transcripts are $3 each. NOTE: Determine how each one of your colleges accepts documents through Family Connection/Naviance. How to Request Transcripts If by mail: Provide a 9X12 envelope; addressed to the college admissions office or scholarship program, with simply your name in the return address space, along with 3- first class stamps (or equivalent postage = $1.32) affixed to the envelope. Do not put your own return address on the envelope.   If by eDoc , Common Application or Coalition: Submit the completed Transcript Request form to Mrs. Gassaway-Fields.

WELCOME COALITION! The Coalition Application has arrived (for real this time)! Students will need to create an account, fill out the profile information and then add desired schools Each school may have specific information or essays that they request in addition to the student’s general profile Students must select the box “I will be sending in my Grades separately” in the “Documents” section. This allows Magruder counselors and teachers to submit transcripts and letters of recommendation through Family Connection

Requesting Counselor Recommendation Complete “Senior Thinking About Yourself” form (found under the “About Me” tab on the left side of the screen). Be sure to indicate that you need a Counselor Recommendation on the Transcript Request Form (mark _Yes or _No on the form).

Requesting Teacher Recommendations Speak to your teacher to confirm that they are willing to write your recommendation letter. In Family Connection/Naviance, click on the link letters of recommendation section and follow instructions. For teachers not submitting recommendations electronically, provide college-addressed business size envelope with appropriate postage. Write your name only in the upper left corner and the college deadline in the lower left corner. Again, it is up to YOU to ensure that your application is being sent the correct way. COUNSELORS HAVE 20 SCHOOL DAYS TO COMPLETE YOUR RECOMMENDATION LETTER FROM THE DAY THAT YOU SUBMIT ALL NECESSARY PAPERWORK TO THE REGISTRAR.

SAT/ACT/Accuplacer Go to www.collegeboard.org to register for the SAT. SAT w/o essay is $46; SAT with essay is $60. Go to www.actstudent.org to register for the ACT. ACT is $46 no writing; ACT is $62.50 with Writing. If you’re applying to Montgomery College, visit the MC website to find more information regarding the Accuplacer. See Mrs. Garland for more info.

College Visits @ Magruder All students are sent weekly visit updates through their Family Connection email account. Over 75 Colleges and Universities nationwide send Admissions Representatives to MHS annually. Visits take place in the Career Center. Sign-up on Naviance/Family Connection NOW!

FAFSA (Free Application For Federal Student Aid) All students applying for Financial Aid MUST complete FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov The application is available October 1st, 2017 Use 2016 Income Tax Returns Tax information can be updated after filing your taxes.

Scholarships Do your research through the Scholarship section on Naviance. Visit the College & Career Center. See Mrs. Garland.
