The Michigan Traffic Crash Facts Grant Patrick Bowman Traffic Records Forum August 8, 2016

Transportation Data Analysis Center for the Management of Information for Safe and Sustainable Transportation (CMISST) Transportation Data Analysis (data fusion, state data, driving data, crash outcome, etc.) Staff of 10 Data Dissemination (web-based access to customized UMTRI, state, and national transportation datasets) Methods Development (study design, videoless driving data collection, appropriate statistical methods for analyzing driving datasets, etc.)

Michigan Crash Data Preparation and Analysis Receive raw official “closed data” from Michigan Criminal Justice Information Center annually built in SAS Data uploaded to GUI with XML schema MTCF website Technical assistance requests from OHSP staff and traffic safety community

Technical Assistance Data analysis and statistical consulting Began as data requests and progressed to current grant level Formally started in 2012 with part-time statistician Added another part-time statistician in 2013 Current second office at “UMTRI North” location (Lansing)

Michigan Traffic Crash Facts Website Publications Reports and Fact Sheets from MI 1992-2015 data (2015 in progress) Updated to include newly requested data reports each year Data Query Tool MI 2004-2015 data Customized queries using fields on police UD-10 report as filters Charts, tables, lists, calendars, maps, and crash reports Continue to update the website each year to add new features requested by users.

Usage Statistics (April 1, 2015 – June 30, 2015) Publications ~260 average unique publications requested per month Most downloaded publication: 2014 Statewide Report Data Query Tool ~7,230 queries run per month Most used filter: Driver Age Most frequent query: Crash Drinking (Drinking Involved) and Worst Injury in Crash (Fatal)
