Transformations

Congruent Figure Transformations Reflection Translation Rotation Pre-Image Image Mapping A flip across a line (line of reflection) A slide along a vector A spin around a point (counter-clockwise) The starting figure (before movement) The figure after a transformation (1st = prime, 2nd = double prime, 3rd= triple prime ….) The progression of movements

Transformation of Similar Figures Shapes grow or shrink based on a scale factor Dilation 1. All angles measures stay the same 2. All sides change proportionally

Symmetry Symmetry…..when a shape has two matching (identical) pieces. Line of Symmetry….the line across which the shape has two identical pieces.

Example #1 How many lines of symmetry for each figure….

Example #2 How many lines of symmetry for each figure….

Vector Notation < x , y > < x + 3, y –1 > ______________________ < x, y > < -x, y > _________________________ < x, y > < x, -y > ____________________________ < x, y > < -y, x > ____________________________ < x, y > < -x, -y > ___________________________ < x, y > < y, -x > ___________________________ Translation – 3 right, 1 down Reflection across the y axis Reflection across the x axis Rotation 90o (counter-clockwise) Rotation 180o (counter-clockwise) Rotation 270o (counter-clockwise)

Example #3 Reflect the triangle over the y-axis……..

Example #4 translate along <8, 3>

Example #5 Rotate 90o

Example #7 Reflect the parallelogram over the x-axis, then along <9, -3>

Example #8 Reflect the trapezoid over the y-axis, then over the x-axis……..

Example #9 Reflect the figure over the X-Axis, then rotate 180 degrees clockwise.
