Testing for Lipids: Grease Spot Test   Working in groups; 1 student will collect supplies: 1 tray, 1 beaker of milk, 1 beaker of oil, 1 beaker of water, small dab of butter, 3 pieces of cotton 1 student will get 1 paper towel and draw 4 squares, 3 in x 3 in < Using cotton swab, put samples of three liquids (milk, water, oil) in the squares. C*E*R - In journals, students will write CLAIM (what they think the spots will show). Once dry, the fats will leave translucent spots behind. This may be easier to see when held up to the light. In journals, students will record EVIDENCE (draw sketch of squares and what they see, explain what happened). REASONING (what do the spots mean, including the water).
