Welcome to Back to School Night! 2017-2018

Welcome to our class! cturner@upperdarbysd.org I encourage you to email me if you have any questions.

Communication Write or attach a note to your child’s planner. Email me. I check my email throughout the day. cturner@upperdarbysd.org Call the office and leave a message. I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Reading and Language Arts Block 1 consists of guided reading and reading comprehension strategies. Phonics and spelling skills are also included in this block. New robust vocabulary words are introduced each week. Block 2 includes small groups, learning centers, and independent work. Writing will be integrated throughout all subject areas.

Spelling 15 new words each Monday Weekly test on Friday 5 additional Challenge words will be given on each test. Challenge words will not be sent home. The purpose is to measure if your child is applying the strategies being taught in class. Score can still be Proficient if all Challenge words are incorrect.

Math Go Math! It is aligned with the new Common Core Standards Units of study include: Addition and Subtraction, Multiplication and Division, Interpreting Data, Multiplication, Division, Fractions, Measurement, Perimeter and Area, and Geometry Tests will be given at the end of each chapter

Binders and Folders Notes Home Important notes will be attached or written in your child’s planner Planner All homework is written in the planner. Please check the planner each night for the assignments to be completed. Please initial the planner after your child completes the assignments Behavior calendar will be filled out each day

Homework Should be a quick review of skills taught that day or preparation for an upcoming test Helps students develop responsibility Kept to a minimum due to other sports/activities Daily Homework Spelling tic tac toe Math facts or PB Study Spelling Other assignments/projects may be given throughout the year. Given on Monday-Due on Friday.

Birthdays and Treats Please send treats in equal portions with your child in the morning *We have 19 students in our class this year. Sometime during the day we will: Celebrate and have treats Sing Happy Birthday

Attendance Please send a note and call the office to report an absence and send a note when your child returns to school. Late Bell: 8:50
