Discussion and Analysis March 21, 2017

Agenda Bell Ringer Reflection and Perspective The Purpose of Discussion and Analysis Formula for Success Example

Reflect So far you’ve drafted: Your Problem Statement and Your Facts and Findings What’s next?

Answer: Discussion and Analysis! Today you’ll be drafting your Discussion and Analysis Section. Tomorrow you’ll be drafting your Conclusion and Recommendations Section.

The Purpose The purpose of the Discussion and Analysis Section is to show that you understand your target audience. You should explore what the facts and findings mean about your target audience and their interests and behaviors. The upcoming slides will provide an example of the Discussion and Analysis section using the Whole Foods article we read from the Chicago Tribune.

Step 1: Pick Facts Medium household income for frequent Whole Foods shoppers nationwide is $75,000 annually. (according to the article) The new location has 400+ parking spaces. The new location has over 75,000 square feet of retail space. The new location offers many unique services (prepared goods, bar, etc. Medium household income for Lakeview, Chicago is $70,746. (U.S. Census) Medium household income for Lincoln Park, Chicago (south of store) is $82,707. (U.S. Census) Medium household income for Roscoe Village, Chicago (west of store) is $96,477 (Point 2 Homes) Medium household income for Wrigleyville, Chicago (north of store) is $100,216 (Point 2 Homes)

Step 2: Generalize Our audience wants fresh, organic products. Lakeview is surround by communities to the north, south, and west whose average household income is well over the average income of frequent Whole Foods shoppers.

Step 3: Put it all together Residents of Lakeview, Roscoe Village, Lincoln Park, and Wrigleyville value the organic food offerings of Whole Foods because our customers are health conscious. Further, many residents of these neighborhoods make enough money to shop at Whole Foods regularly. With the growing competition of grocery-delivery services (e.g. Peapod) and other grocery stores offering organic products at more affordable prices, customers desire a way to make grocery shopping an experience rather than a chore. Successful grocers in these neighborhoods need to create an experience that appeals to the residents and capitalizes on the money they have to spend.

Last Comments Keep it focused on the customers (audience). Try to save your conclusions and recommendations for the last section! Now, someone ask a question…

Your Assignment Draft the Discussion and Analysis section of your final assessment. Draft due at the end of class.
