Saving Max Antoinette Van Heugten Codi Calloway

You may use this slide as a template! What is it? This books main character is max who has issues and gets accused of killing someone. Attribute: this book is historical fiction because it has a real world. Title: saving max What is your book’s genre? Write it here: realistic fiction Attribute: The people in this story could be real. Attribute: This book is historical fiction bacause the story could really happen the main character has serious problems in his life. Example: Wet Grave by Barbara Humbly Example: The Dress Lodger by Sheri Holman Example: House of Dies Drear by Virginia Hamilton

Attribute: the events that’s happen makes this book historical fiction. “Danielle, has max been violent at home?” Danielle shakes her head too quickly. The scars on her arm seem to burn. “No.” he sits quietly and then puts his notes into a blue folder. “given max’s clinical depression, suicidal indentations and volatility, we have to be realistic about his needs.” (17) “hold them under you tongue. Flush them down the commode. they're making you sick; keeping you drugged.” “but why mom? Why would they?” “just do it max please. And pretend to cooperate.” “what?” she shakes her head. “if you don’t fight them they won't put you in restraints…” she cant trust her voice to finish the sentence.” (198) “I informed ms. Parkman that max believed that jonas was plotting to hurt him or kill him” sevillas stands. “your honor, this is dangerous close to violating the courts order not to discuss max parkmans diagnosis in public.”(292)

Attribute: the people in this story could be real. “dr. Amelia Reyes-Moreno” she says “ill be Max’s primary doctor while he’s here.” (27) “ you really think he murdered Jonas?” max’s voice seems excited. Danielle cant take any more. “honey, I have to go call me later.” “mom?” “yes?” “if I can prove fasted did it, then ill know I didn’t.” she puts her hand into her forehead, glad that he cant see her. “you didn’t do it max.” (177) “max jumps to his feet. “you’re a liar!” Sevillas shoves max down into his chair and jumps up. Objection! Are we now going to let the mother of the decedent give an expert opinion on my client’s mental health?” he gives Marianne a warning book she smiles back politley. (323)

This book is historical fiction because the story could really happen the main character has serious problems in his life. “as you mentioned, max was experiencing increasing volatility, paranoid delusions and violent tendencies. The purpose of the meeting was to more thoroughly explain the basis for our collective diagnosis and to give ms.parkman an opportunity to question the entire team.”(290) “so tell me,” says Marianne. “has max been violent? I know that’s an issue for so many special-needs boys.” Danielle feels her face flush “no, not really. A few incidents at school.” and tearing at her arms.” (32) “Danelle’s anger ignites . “are you telling me that I don’t know my own child? That im so innately selfish that I would fail to admit the truth so I could cause my son additional harm?” (101)

EVALUATION: is saving Max a good example of realistic fiction? Antoinette Van Heugten did a good job of making this book historical fiction most everything in this book can be real. The diagnosis are real the stuff that happened in this book like max cutting himself and when he gets accused of killing someone. He has to go to court of these are things that happen everyday in real life. the author dose a good job of making this book seem real. By putting real events in the book
