Rates and Measurement A rate is a comparison of two quantities of a different type. When simplifying rates, we compare the 1st quantity with ‘1’ unit of the 2nd quantity. Rates are converted by multiplying or dividing each term to get the correct units. Then divide the first quantity by the second.
