Presentation transcript:

The Planetary Data System and “PDS Challenge” Activity PDS Program Scientist Ed Grayzeck Nov 28, 2012

Current NTL interactions “PDS Challenge” status as of 2012 Gathered ideas from within PDS – two winners Teamed with NASA Tournament Lab (NTL) (NASA/Harvard/TopCoder) to implement as PSD action Created series of contests (now phase 2) supported by NASA Advanced Exploration Systems (Jason Crusan) Used a restricted sample of SBN (comet Halley) data on excess server Established an API Developed an Application for Android and iOS phones Teacher applications Presented to MC at Aug meeting Poster and presentation at Oct DPS

PDS Challenge Next Steps Contests to develop Teacher Lesson Plans? (teaming with current PDS CSI function) Goal - broaden data access at PDS Nodes? Talk of teaming with Rings to search Cassini data for ring disruptions – citizen science. Other Node ideas

Background – Google Moon ARC initiative to amalgamate large collection of recent lunar data (Google Moon) Descriptions of past PDS-Google interactions (meeting with Jim, Bill, and Ed - Nov 1) PSD response: outline earlier work with Google through ARC/UCD (Jay) sent to SMD and related archives for further cooperation PDS interactions with World Wide Telescope (Beyer & Scharff) and current work with NTL Need to ask Nodes of any further interaction?
