Overview Team 2 tilts a cup, and a sinker rolls out and sets off a mouse trap. The mouse trap throws a sack and the sack hits a vertical board. The board is on a hinge so it falls and strikes a wheel. The wheel spins with enough torque to set off another mouse trap. The second mouse trap breaks a tooth pick, which lets free a string. The string holds a cup which drops and closes scissors and turns on a light at the same time. Pictures of overall project Explanation of how it works Cost and materials THE QUICK-E

Conservation of Energy Projectile Motion The ball drops with speed of 7.33 ft/sec, and we found this by using conservation of energy and here are the calculations Once the mouse trap is set off it throws a bag full of sawdust and a sinker the trajectory equation give us the velocity and this is how we calculated it The bag that has been thrown hits a piece of wood on a hinge and the angular acceleration of this hinge is this and we found this by….

Conservation of Angular Momentum The piece of wood that is on the swivel hits another piece of wood sticking out from the wheel and the speed is transferred to the wheel and the torque is this and we found this by… The wheel does roughly 1/3 of a turn and a piece of string is attached to the second peiece of wood coming off the wheel and that is connected to a mouse trap. When the wheel spins it pulls the string which sets off the mouse trap and breaks a toothpick that is holding a string that is connected to another string that is holding up the weight of the cup. Torque:

Conservation of Energy - When the tooth pick breaks that has the string connected to it that is holding the weight of the cup it allows the cup to fall which is connected to a pair of scissors. The string from the cup to the scissors is routed with eye screws. So when the cup drops it closes the scissors and cuts a string that starts the next project. Also, there is a push button light below the cup and the weight of the cup presses the light which turns it on.

Problems Problems with sinker dropping Problems with mousetrap Weight of wood on swivel Pulley system Getting the ball to drop straight down with the use of pvc pipe Getting the mouse trap to shoot the project at the angle we needed. Getting the bag at the right weight and the weight in the right spot Getting the wood and swivel positioned in the right spot so that it didn’t hit the wheel and getting the right weight to set off the second mouse trap. The pulley system was the most difficult part of our project. We ended up stopping our project one day and taking the night to brainstorm on more efficient ideas. Figuring out how to turn the light on with heavy weight but at the same time allowing the scissors to be open.

Conclusion Team Work Reliable team members Good design before starting (brainstorming) Trail and error -team work, we all worked very well together, the biggest part of our team work was the ability to feed off each others ideas and having all having the same idea of how we wanted the project to function going in to work on it. Reliability, having the reliable teammate was a big essential in getting this project done. Also being able to rely on one another to show up on time and be ready to work. Being able to rely on each other to pick up materials if we needed them or if there was a time conflict in a team members schedule. Brainstorming together and talking about it constantly to have team idea of what to do and being able to feed off each others idea. Working together and using trial and error to better perfect our device and make it more efficient.
