MCJC Schools Curriculum Plan Year One

Curriculum Goals Year One 2017-2018 Teachers will develop an understanding of stage one of the curriculum writing process (Planning—What do we want our students to learn) Teachers will develop a beginning understanding of the role literacy plays in their content area. The leadership team will commit to developing an understanding of the backwards design process

Training and Professional development Plan August 2017 Teacher Objectives Leadership Objectives Teachers will draw conclusions about big ideas from standards to generate enduring understandings for content area Teachers will choose Power Standards from courses Leadership team will begin a book study to delve deep into how to implement the curriculum process Department co-chairs will begin a book study to master the curriculum design process

Training and Professional development Plan September 2017 Teacher Objectives Leadership Objectives Teachers will reflect on Power Standards and divide them into courses Teachers will discuss what data might be used to determine whether correct Power Standards were chosen. Teachers will begin to explore the idea of looking at data to choose literacy standards. Leadership team will begin training on the curriculum process and implementation and work with Atlas to plan October PD Co-chairs will begin training on the curriculum process Lead teachers will help their teachers gather data to make decisions about Power Standards

Training and Professional development Plan October Department Meetings 2017 Teacher Objectives Leadership Objectives Teachers will bring data sources to meeting and determine whether correct Power Standards were chosen Curriculum Team will bring summarized STAR reading data to help content area teachers choose one Power Standard for both reading and writing. Leadership team will continue book study on the curriculum process and implementation, and continue working with Atlas on October PD Co-chairs will begin continue book study on the curriculum process

Training and Professional development Plan October Professional Development 2017 Teacher Objectives Leadership Objectives With the help of our Atlas team, teachers will work on refining their understanding of the Power Standards With the help of our Atlas team, teachers will develop a process of breaking standards down into “I Can” statements Leadership team will continue book study on the curriculum process and implementation Co-chairs will begin continue book study on the curriculum process Curriculum Team will finalize the “ standards break down process” and publish it in Atlas

Training and Professional development Plan November 2017 Teacher Objectives Leadership Objectives Teachers will follow the process for standards breakdown process to analyze Power Standards Teachers will apply this process to other courses in their curriculum Teachers will use the same process for literacy standards Teachers will begin discussing what types of academic vocabulary may be taught in each unit Leadership team and co-chairs will finalize book studies Leadership team will use walk-through check sheets to set goals about the curriculum process for their teachers Rubrics for essential questions and enduring understandings will be created.
