What is a Career Cluster? Career Clusters are just groupings of occupations or Careers There is something in common about these Careers Example: Doctors, nurses, pharmacists, dentists, lab technicians, veterinarians, and xray technicians These are all careers that relate to one career cluster – Health Science

Each of the Career Clusters we offer at BCHS will consist of Pathways. So what is a Pathway?

What is a Pathway? Pathways are made up of at least three specific courses, in a Cluster. Example Career Cluster: Education Pathway: Early Childhood Care and Education First Class all Early Childhood Education Students Take: Early Childhood Education I (9th grade) Then: Early Childhood Education II (10th grade) Early Childhood Education III (11th grade)

Pathways are designed to help you: take courses, both CTAE and academic, related to your career goals! learn more about an area of interest to determine if this is the right career path for you! enter college or the workforce a step ahead of the rest!

Why Complete a CTAE Pathway? Completing a Pathway will assist you in learning more about a particular career and prepare you for it while in high school The courses will help you become more competitive after high school Employment Technical College 2 or 4 year college Military

Take courses in a Cluster and Pathway closest to the type of career you think you are interested in at this point in your life! If you want to be a doctor, physical therapist, x-ray technician, phlebotomist, nurse, or in any medical field – take the first course in the Health Science Cluster. In that class you will learn about the different available pathways and the classes you will take in tenth grade and beyond.

End of Pathway Assessments (EOPA) Most Pathways consist of three courses in a specific order. When you have taken the third class in a pathway, you are considered a “Completer” You will take an End of the Pathway Assessment that can lead to a Certificate or Credential!

How Many Classes in a Pathway Can I take? As a Freshman, you will most likely have room in your schedule for only one course in a CTAE Pathway. Often this course is an overview of different pathways, including some that are not currently offered at BCHS. This course will help you determine if you want to continue in a related Pathway in that program area or change to another Program.
