Presentation transcript:

Wednesday 9/13/17 Notebook Entry: When you work in a group there are often roles or jobs that each person does; such as the ones listed below. Recorder Materials Manager Reporter Discussion Leader Of the jobs listed above, which one is your favorite to do and why? Which one is your least favorite to do and why?

Safety First You will be doing many investigations, which require the use of science equipment. To ensure a safe science classroom, there are expectations for behavior during investigations. These expectations must be followed at all times.

Group Roles Recorder Materials Manager Reporter Discussion Leader Take turns sharing what you wrote down for your notebook entry and then decide who will do each job.

Materials Manager: Obtain your groups safety scenario. Discussion Leader: Carefully read out loud the safety expectations and the safety scenario in the sheet protector. Everybody: Identify which science expectation(s) was not followed in the scenario. Recorder: On the little white board, write down the number of the expectation(s) not followed. Reporter: Share out to the entire class your group’s scenario and what expectations were not followed.

Science Safety Expectations   1. Conduct yourself in a responsible manner at all times in the science room. Horseplay, practical jokes, and pranks will not be tolerated. 2. Follow all written and verbal instructions carefully. Ask your teacher questions if you do not understand the instructions. 3. Do not touch any equipment, supplies, or other materials in the science room without permission from the teacher. 4. Perform only authorized and approved experiments. Do not conduct any experiments when the teacher is out of the room. 5. Do not put materials in your mouth, unless it is part of a teacher approved experiment. 6.  Your desk and the area around it must be kept organized during the investigation. 7.When it is time, you must clean up your area and return all the materials to where you got them from. 8. Follow your teacher’s instructions to dispose of any waste materials generated in an experiment. 9. Report any accident (fire, spill, breakage, etc.), injury (cut, burn, etc.), or hazardous condition (broken equipment, etc.) to the teacher immediately.
