Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is… … a special holiday for families to give thanks for all the food and blessings they receive. … celebrated every fourth Thursday of

The tradition started in 1620 when a group of men and women left England on a ship called Mayflower to start a new life in a different land. They were called Pilgrims.

When they arrived in America, it was almost winter so they had no time to grow crops. In spring, the Native Americans (Wampanoag Indians) helped them. They taught the Pilgrims how to grow vegetables, how to hunt for animals and how to fish.

This was the first Thanksgiving dinner.  And by November there was food for everybody. The Pilgrims wanted to celebrate it so they invited the Native Americans to a great dinner where they gave thanks to God for the food. This was the first Thanksgiving dinner. 

The traditional Thanksgiving dinner are: Turkey, Cranberries, Potatoes, Corn and Pumpkin Pie.
