In class… …students will be doing the following: Making connections between science in the classroom and science in the real world & engaging students in science: Scientists working in the field. Technology & innovations in science. Careers in science or related to science. Science current events that effect humans & other living things.

In class… …students will be doing the following: Investigations to find answers to unknown phenomena. Hands-on science based activities. Hands-on Lab experiments. Practice writing Lab reports & recording information properly. Reading articles and information on science related content.

In class… …students will be doing the following: Listening to teacher explain science content. Work in pairs or collaborative groups (groups of 4) to discuss science topics and hear from other students opinions & thoughts. Students will have endless opportunities to share their ideas and thoughts on science concepts discussed in class.

In class… …students will be doing the following: Actively participate in Argument Driven Inquiry: Students discuss results of experiments & share data with the class. activity in which students complete lab experiments and defend their position on the answer to a question from their lab experiment.

In class… …students will be doing the following: Learning science knowledge through inquiry based lab experiments. Includes 5 E Learning Method: Engage Explore Explain Elaborate Evaluate

5E Learning model Engage: students connect science content in class that relates to their everyday lives- engages students into learning science. Explore: students work on understanding a scientific phenomenon/ concept through completing an hands-on experiment or activity. Explain: teacher explains the scientific phenomenon/content through open discussion of activity with the class. Teacher also lectures the science content that relates to the experiment that students explored. Elaborate: students do further investigations or assignments related to the science concept associated with the explore activity. Evaluate: students display their knowledge of the science concept through an evaluation (test, project, activity, or lab experiment).

At home… …students will be doing the following: Reading the chapter and taking notes on the chapter: Any format of notes (minimum: 1 page- 2 sides): when teacher assigns these assignments. Writing more than 1 page of notes on a chapter is recommended.

Topics covered in class… 6th Grade Earth Science: Nature of Earth Science. Earth’s Resources. Plate Tectonics & Earth’s Structure. Shaping Earth’s Structure. Earth’s Oceans & Atmosphere. Ecology.

Topics covered in class… 7th Grade Life Science: Scientific method & Inquiry. Cell Biology, including microscopes. Genetics. Evolution & Earth’s History. Living Things & Classification. Human Body Systems.

If my child will is absent… All students who are absent will get an extra day to turn in work when they get back to school: there is no need to email for the assignments – I will give your student the make-up work when he/she comes back to school & give extra time for the student to finish the assignment with no point penalties.

Late assignments… Non-excused late assignments are accepted for reduced credit… ...so please always encourage your child to turn in assignments…even if its late!! 

“Missing Assignment” on aeries… If your child has a “missing assignment” on aeries, please have your child turn it in late: I will accept it late for reduced credit, so please encourage your child to complete all assignments, even if late!!  If student has misplaced or lost worksheet or other assignment and wants to turn it in late, Have the student speak with me in class to get another copy.
