National tree Blue Mahoe is the national tree of Jamaica. The name mahoe is derived from a Carib Indian word. The tree has a straight trunk, broad green leaves and hibiscus- like flowers.

National fruit Ackee is a national fruit of Jamaica. Its fruit is pear shaped, bright red to yellow-orange, and when ripe, splits open to reveal three large, shiny black seeds, surrounded by soft, creamy or spongy, white to yellow flesh.

National bird The doctor bird of swallow tail humming bird, is the national bird of Jamaica. It lives only in Jamaica. The doctor bird’s feathers have no counterpart in the entire bird population. The mature male has two long tails which stream behind him when he flies.

National flower Lignum Vitae is the national flower of Jamaica. Liginum Vitae comes from Latin and means “wood of life”. In Jamaica it grows best in the dry woodland along the north and south coasts of the island.

The climate The climate in Jamaica is tropical, with hot and humid weather. The biggest river in Jamaica- Black River, Rio Cobre, Milk River, Rio Grande.
