Abraham lincoln Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the USA. He takes a special place in the list of the American residents.

Abraham lincoln Abe grew up in the Middle West. His family lived in poverty. After the death of his mother, his father married again. The boy taught himself by reading the books.

Abraham lincoln In Illinois for a while Abraham worked a the store. Later he joined the militia and fought in an Indian war. After the war he walked home with an educated young lawyer. This new friend gave Abe advice to study law.

Abraham lincoln Lincoln became a lawyer and a politician. In 1861 he became the 6th American President. In the same year the Civil War began. In 1863 he signed the Emancipation Proclamation – the document that made all the slaves free. In 1865 the North won the Civil War.
