Similarities between Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Nelson Mandela Similarities between Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King

What made him important? Nelson Mandela was the first black president of South Africa. He began to make a difference early in his life. Despite coming from an upper class family, he made strikes and other protests against colonial rule Why was he imprisoned? Upon his return to South Africa, Mandela was arrested for going between countries without a passport and for trying to everthrow the government. He spent the next 28 years in prison where he continued to make a difference.

Why was he later freed from prison? He was released from prison as the State President decided to allow “anti apertheid” for the African People and Nelson Mandela who have been fighting for this got released soon after.

Similarities between Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King They both used non violent methods in their causes They both stood up against discrimination They were both assasinated They are both “goal oriented” They are both religious and have strong moral values They struggled to reach their goals They both seek peace and unity
