What is Child Labour? Child Labour is one of the world's worst issues and is a problem in different parts of the globe. Countries use children for jobs like mining, working in factories, sewing etc.

Who is Doing it and Why? Power-driven machines replaced hand labor for making most manufactured items. Factories began to spring up everywhere, first in England and then in the United States. The factory owners found a new source of labor to run their machines — children.

Who does Child Labour Affect? Child labour affects 215 million children that are labourers. It affects them mentally, and physically. Because of labour they don't have the right to education, and their own childhood. They also get severe injuries.

Who dose it affect

What organizations are helping? One of the main organization that is helping is ILO it stands for international labour organization and it helps to stop child labour around the world .

Where is Child Labour Happening? Of an estimated 215 million child laborers around the globe: approximately 114 million are in Asia and the Pacific; 14 million live in Latin America; and 65 million live in sub-Saharan Africa.

map

When did Child Labour Start? Child labour started in 1800 in America, India, Asia and Pakistan.

When did it become recognized as a world issue By the 1880s, child labor was a recognized as a major problem

Why are people doing it? People are still doing it because operating the power-driven machines do not require adult strength, and children can be hired more cheaply than adults.

How is Canada Helping? A growing number of Canadians are willing to pay more money for products that are free of child labour and create fundraisers and charities.

How is Catholic Church Helping? The Catholic Church is helping collect money by doing fundraisers and donate to charities.

What Jobs do the Children do? Children mostly work in mines and factories. Girls sew clothes and boys mine during child labour.

How Long do They Work for? The children work 12 to 16 hours a day and barely get any sleep they get very dirty and barely have time to clean themselves and eat.

How Much Money do They Earn? They earn 20 or less cents a day! So they earn 73 dollars a year.

Child Labour Day June 12 is the World Day Against Child Labour. Today, and every day, we stand for children’s rights – tirelessly working to protect children from dangerous work.

Did You Know? In 2015, UN member states adopted 17 Global Goals for sustainable development, including goal 8.7 to end all forms of forced labour, modern slavery and child labour by 2025. Eliminating child labour will help address poverty, strengthen economies and positively influence education, health and protection systems worldwide.

Child Labour Prayer Today is World Day against Child Labour. Let’s pray for governments to enforce laws regarding child labour—and for freedom for children put to work against their will. Amen.
