Preparation for Practice Learning For Year 1 Students Adele Kane Associate Head of School Practice Learning

Welcome to modern nursing The programme is designed to optimise the maximum experience across a wide range of care environments across the health and social care landscape. Your course will be divided into separate theory and practice blocks 50% Theory 50% Practice 2,300 hours of practice Learning hours must be achieved, of which 300 can be logged through clinical skills simulation.

In order for you to experience a wide range of placement opportunities to match the diversity of clinical nursing you will spend you placement with various organisations to achieve the requirements of the programme. In total there are 6 placements, 2 per year in blocks between theoretical blocks. The placements are between 8 and 12 weeks long

. Community Nursing is the synthesis of nursing and public health practice applied to promote and protect the health of population. It combines all the basic elements of professional, clinical nursing with public health and community practice . Acute Inpatient care is where a patient receives active but short-term treatment

What will I be doing? Each Placement requires you to demonstrate learning and achievement of expected outcomes You will work under direct or indirect supervision of mentors – who will assess you. For 40% of your time in placement. You will develop plans to achieve learning and have opportunity for formal feedback along the way in preparation for a formal summative assessment towards the end of your placement.

You will pathway to other health care settings or practitioners in relation to the patient group of your designated placement. You will shadow normal shift patterns and need to arrange to do so.

Practice How will my placements be decided? Allocation is based on the need to meet programme requirements Travel to Placement should not exceed an hour Linked to your home/placement postcode Financial Support for Travel and also accommodation is available –make the most of it.
