3.13 Who is Jesus? To Know and understand the three titles of Jesus To understand the evidence supporting each title

Who is Jesus? Using the following bible passages; find out As many different names for Jesus as you can. Find as much evidence as you can of Jesus’ power. Mark 1:9-11 - Baptism Mark 8:27-33- Peter’s Confession Mark 4:35-41- Calming the storm Mark 6:32-44- Feeding Five Thousand Mark 5:21-43- Jairus’ daughter What evidence is there to suggest that Jesus was the Son of God?

The titles of Jesus There are three different titles for Jesus in the gospels Messiah- The chosen one who would rid the Jews of their enemies and be their king. Son of God- The idea that Jesus is part of the trinity. He is fully human and fully God Son of Man- a coded title that Jesus used for himself. It literally means “human.” Jesus called himself this because he could not have been arrested for saying it and both other titles would have got him into trouble. The reason that it is code is that in the Old Testament there is a passage in the book of Daniel which prophecies a “son of man with the power of God.” So he uses the title as code to tell people who he is with out getting into trouble. Son of God would have been blasphemy and carried a death sentence Messiah suggested that he would get rid of the Romans which would have given his followers false hope and could have got him into trouble (dead) with the Romans. Write down and explain the three main titles of Jesus Why would calling yourself the Son of God carry a death sentence? It is possible that Judas was a zealot. How might this (explain why he killed Jesus if he had thought Jesus was the Messiah?)

The Messianic Secret In some of the passages you have looked at, Jesus admitted that he was the messiah but told everyone to keep it a secret. Instead he called himself the Son of Man. This is called the Messianic secret. What is the messianic secret? What evidence is there that Jesus was the Son of God (8) What evidence was there that Jesus was the Messiah? (Isaiah 7:14, Micah 5:2, Hosea 11:1, Isaiah 35:4-5, Isaiah 53, Zechariah 9:9)
