Inc. 32 nm fabrication process and Intel SpeedStep. Intel G6950 CPU

Intel G6950 CPU Released in Q1 of 2010, Dual Core CPU, 2.8Ghz clock speed, 64-bit Instruction Set, 32nm Fabrication Process, Voltage range: 0.65v-1.4v.

32nm Fabrication Process Process used to create integrated circuits on silicone chips. 65nm in 2006, 45nm in 2008. Lower power consumption. More advanced processors.

32nm Fabrication Process cont. When it was first showcased, it was using a 300mm wafer of 291Mbit SRAM chips. These chips contained 1.9bn transistors . At the time the chips didn’t have any execution cores, but they were still able to operate.

Intel SpeedStep On the fly clock speed adjustment dependant on work load. Done by reducing the multiplier of the chip. Lower power consumption means less heat. Greater efficiency, reduced power usage.

Intel SpeedStop cont. It can be integrated into many other areas. Not just the CPU market. GPUs are able to take advantage of this technology.
