CURE and MUI Resilience Workshop 13-9-17 Jeremy Carter

Transformative outcomes Risk management increases the resilience space IPCC 2014, WG II, Summary for Policymakers. Connecting risk and resilience Multiple interacting ‘stressors’ Uncertainty, flexibility, deliberation, learning and innovation Mitigation/adaptation synergies and conflicts

Framework co-produced with RESIN partners to support the RESIN project Connecting risk reduction and resilience building www.resin-cities.eu Climate risks arise from the interaction of climate and non-climate drivers Two distinct but (potentially) interconnected systems Cyclical and iterative resilience building approach

Resilience questions? Scope: Climate change as one element of a systemic resilience approach. Climate is a route into a broader resilience narrative. Learning: Positioning resilience as a framing concept that can enhance understanding of stressors and solutions. Strategy: Moving towards proactive/anticipatory resilience building.
