Definition-Improving Access Having “access” to health care can mean many things. It can mean being physically close to an orthopaedic health care facility. It can also mean that a health care facility provides services that address to your specific orthopaedic needs. It can also mean that it’s easy to get and understand information related to your orthopaedic care.

CHALLENGES IN ORTHOPAEDIC CARE Resource-poor settings may foster innovations in devices or systems with universal applicability in orthopaedic. Lack of enough orthopaedic infrastructures Less funding and low budget allocation in orthopaedic department. Lack of return on investment. Lack of demand for improvement. Lack of enough personnel.

Changes in orthopaedic care Employing more orthopaedic surgeons, plaster Technicians, Getting affordable orthopaedic equipments and materials. More operating theatres in orthopaedic surgery Having a collaborative team. Training orthopaedic fraternity on a regularly basis about new innovations and ideas.

TRAINING ORTHOPAEDIC FRATERNITY Sub specialization is paramount Plaster technicians Deficiencies during 5years training of orthopedic surgeons is a problem

PUBLIC AWARENESS Regularly public awareness by educating the people about orthopaedic condition and the need of urgency about treatment in orthopaedic. These programs are for Traffic and awareness for preventing Accidents , To take care of the health of their Bones e.g Club foot and Osteoporosis etc . And they include: Orthopaedic walk Brochure Media Community Meetings

COMMUNICATION Patient communication is linked to increased patient satisfaction and patient adherence to medication and treatment regimens as well as to improved clinical outcomes. Practicing orthopaedic surgeons have received limited formal education in the communication skills necessary for patient-centered care. Patient-centered care involves treating patients as partners, involving them in decision-making, and enlisting their sense of responsibility for their care while respecting their individual values and concerns. We have tended to focus mainly on the technical aspects of our care-giving.

EQUIPMENTS & infrastructure All hospitals should have orthopaedic equipments and materials for example: -Image intensifier both in theatre and casting room with better rooms for procedures and very well equipped.

WAY FORWARD in orthopaedic fraternity The orthopaedic fraternity and the general community would have to work together. Giving our Patients reassurance that their surgeon are certified with the procedures they do. Having adequate provision of medical, paramedical and supportive staff Through KOA they can encourage employment of orthopaedic personnel Through KOA they can encourage the government to improve the county referral hospitals.
