Renew yourself regularly Habit 7 - Sharpen the Saw Renew yourself regularly By: Thomas Bednarski & Brandon Windnagle Leadership Block 4

How is Habit 7 misused? Although Habit 7 seems very easy to accomplish, it is commonly performed incorrectly. Often times many people "over do it" and forget to Sharpen the Saw. If you have a dull axe and you continue to chop trees down you are taking more time to do so rather than sharpening you blade and then going back to work. However the second way habit 7 is misused is the opposite. Many people choose to relax when they haven't done any work to earn it.

4 Dimensions of Habit 7 In order to effectively perform this habit balance is necessary. You must be evenly healthy in all categories. Too much or too little in a certain category is not good. Body Brain Heart Soul

The Body - Physical Dimension This dimension consists of caring for your body. This involves eating well, getting enough sleep and exercising often. Exercise is very important in maintaining proper physical health. Without a consistent routine health problems can develop.

The Brain - Mental Dimension Within this dimension you must keep a sharp mind. This is possible by reading, writing and staying organized. The greatest obstacle in mental renewal is television. It is watched often in the houses of many and the majority of the shows aren't worth it.

The Heart - Social Dimension Renewing the social dimension requires practice and the maintenance of relationships with others. Depositing into your personal bank account will help achieve your goal of having a healthy heart.

The Soul - Spiritual Dimension Having a balanced soul is important. It effects your mood and way of thinking/feeling. An easy way to be healthy spiritually is to practice a religion.

How can you achieve balance in all dimensions? Body Eat good food Relax Play Sports Take walks Brain Read the newspaper Participate in class Watch the discovery channel Solve crossword puzzles Heart Keep promises Do small acts of kindness Be honest Renew yourself Soul Meditating Drawing Serving others Praying
