Genesis 39:2 2 The Lord was with Joseph, so he succeeded in everything he did as he served in the home of his Egyptian master.

Staying strong, standing tall!

Genesis 39:1-9 39 When Joseph was taken to Egypt by the Ishmaelite traders, he was purchased by Potiphar, an Egyptian officer. Potiphar was captain of the guard for Pharaoh, the king of Egypt. 2 The Lord was with Joseph, so he succeeded in everything he did as he served in the home of his Egyptian master. 3 Potiphar noticed this and realized that the Lord was with Joseph, giving him success in everything he did. 4 This pleased Potiphar, so he soon made Joseph his personal attendant. He put him in charge of his entire household and everything he owned.

Continued…. 5 From the day Joseph was put in charge of his master’s household and property, the Lord began to bless Potiphar’s household for Joseph’s sake. All his household affairs ran smoothly, and his crops and livestock flourished. 6 So Potiphar gave Joseph complete administrative responsibility over everything he owned. With Joseph there, he didn’t worry about a thing—except what kind of food to eat! Joseph was a very handsome and well-built young man,

Continued…. 7 and Potiphar’s wife soon began to look at him lustfully. “Come and sleep with me,” she demanded. 8 But Joseph refused. “Look,” he told her, “my master trusts me with everything in his entire household. 9 No one here has more authority than I do. He has held back nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How could I do such a wicked thing? It would be a great sin against God.”

How to have character: By choosing humility. By choosing integrity.

Genesis 39:7 7 and Potiphar’s wife soon began to look at him lustfully. “Come and sleep with me,” she demanded.

How to have character: 3. By choosing purity.

Genesis 39:8 8 But Joseph refused. “Look,” he told her, “my master trusts me with everything in his entire household.

Helpful hints: Recognize your potential for moral failure. Realize you do have a choice. Renew your resolve to purity everyday. Remove all bitterness from your life.

Hebrews 12:14-16 14 Work at living in peace with everyone, and work at living a holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord. 15 Look after each other so that none of you fails to receive the grace of God. Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many. 16 Make sure that no one is immoral or godless like Esau, who traded his birthright as the firstborn son for a single meal.

Helpful hints: 5. Run from every form of evil.

I CORINTHIANS 6:18 18 Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body.

II TIMOTHY 2:22 22 Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts. Instead, pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace. Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts.

HELPFUL HINTS: 6. Resist the devil.

JAMES 4:7 7 So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

HELPFUL HINTS: Rely on the power of the Holy Spirit. Remember you will give account to God for your choices.

Staying strong, standing tall!
