Distributive Property with Equations Objective – SWBAT solve equations by using the distributive property.

Vocabulary Distributive Property means to multiply a number to EVERY number inside a set of parentheses   How do you solve an equation by using the distributive property? Step 1 – Multiply by using the distributive property. Step 2 – Solve for the variable by following the two-step equation rules.

Practice Problems 1. 3(x + 3) = -15 3x + 9 = -15 -9 -9 3x = -24 3 3 x = -8 3. 2(2x + 3) = 10 4x + 6 = 10 -6 -6 4x = 4 4 4 x = 1 2. 24 = -3(4 – 2x) 24 = -12 + 6x +12 +12 36 = 6x 6 6 x = 6 4. -106 = -2(5 +6x) -106 = -10 – 12x +10 +10 -96 = -12x -12 -12 x = 8
