ESTAT at Great Bridge High School: Our Tiered Intervention Model Donna Weingand, API ESTAT Round Table Discussion June 2016

ESTAT: Enhanced Student-Teacher Assistance Teams ESTAT: A multidisciplinary problem-solving commitment that monitors student progress and makes data–driven decisions to improve outcomes for students (RTI redefined!) Tiered Instructional Model: A process that includes the use of data to guide high-quality instruction and behavior interventions matched to student need, frequent progress monitoring, and application of student response data to make critical educational decisions.

Tiered Instruction and the High School Offering a true tiered instructional model at the high school level poses many challenges: The Master Schedule is not always flexible Block scheduling vs. the traditional model No consistent planning time No embedded intervention time/ flexible schedule

Cps Training Framework

Expectations for Great Bridge Identified ESTAT teams/ coordinators Universal Screening 2-3 times per year SRI, benchmark data, teacher-created assessments, department-created common assessment; anecdotal data from teachers Teachers provide daily intervention Teachers refer students to ESTAT team

ESTAT Team at GBHS ESTAT Coordinator- Donna Weingand, API Teams consist of ESTAT Coordinator, API, Teacher(s), and Counselor, Psychologist, Parents/ Guardians, student

Prior to Considering an ESTAT Referral Create a positive learning climate Classroom intervention strategies Refocus, redirect, preferential seating, encourage extra help, use of intentional instructional strategies Teacher/parent collaboration

Process for Implementing an ESTAT Referral Referrals can be obtained from the GBHS intranet or from the Counseling Office Alpha counselors assist with filling out referrals Once referral form is complete, the ESTAT referral is given to the ESTAT coordinator A conference is scheduled within 10 days of receiving the referral

What does an ESTAT referral look like?
