Can Do Kidz Have a “Can Do” Attitude Phil Cross Isaiah Ham Lynna Lam

What is the Can Do Kidz Curriculum? The Can Do Kidz is model after the great Fit4Kids organization which involves exercise and movement in the core class. This allows students to understand the the lessons with movement while using GEOMATS, which allow their brain to store the knowledge better. Can Do Kidz can be use at any grade level and is a great way to get your students ready for the SOL testing.

Implementation Students create their individual GEOMATS mats Made from used or new yoga mats Saves money for schools Personalization will encourage kids to use one Everyone has their own mat A teacher will introduce the subject and students will use GEOMATs for reinforcement of the material Students will use GEOMATs at least once a day especially as an extra practice activity for difficult topics

Yearly Implementation Teachers will first be introduced to the GEOMATs subject in a workshop before the beginning of the school year they will make their own geomats take part in activities learn more about the importance of incorporating movement with teaching The GEOMATs will then be introduced to the kids similar to the introduction for the teachers, but in a condensed version They will begin using GEOMATs once a week during the 2nd month of school After two weeks they will be used three days weekly The times used will increase every two weeks till students start using GEOMATs at least once everyday, not limited to lesson specific activities. Can be used as a warm up activity or indoor recess option

Weekly Implementation Time Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday 8:30 Homeroom 9:00 Language Arts Math Science Social Studies 10:30 Active Lesson (Math) Active Lesson (Science) 11:30 Lunch/Recess 12:30 Active Lesson (Social Studies) Computer Art 1:30 Library Music PE Active Lesson (Language Arts) 2:30 Active Lesson (Science) 3:30 Dismissal

Research Verified Benefits A 2007 Study in Germany found that people learn vocabulary words 20% faster following exercise. In 2005 an inner-city elementary school near Kansas City implemented a similar program which resulted in a 68% decrease in violent incidents for the year. This success encouraged a hearing led by Senator Tom Harkin. Another example is shown in Titusville where a similar program has raised the school's math and reading scores from below the state average to 17% above the state average for math, and 18% above for reading. In 2001 the California Department of Education found that children meeting the CDC’s fit test, scored twice as well on academic tests as students not meeting the fit test.

Can Do Kidz Value For Us Students will be more engaged in learning with the opportunity to exercise Students will perform better on tests Students will be healthier Our school will have better ratings with higher test scores Teachers will have less disciplinary problems in class Our school will have an innovative teaching method Improve our school's atmosphere with a new program focused on achieving Teachers will be less overwhelmed as students are more focused
