Idea behind Baltic Urban Lab project Baltic Urban Lab Project Approach, Scope and Policy Considerations Idea behind Baltic Urban Lab project Develop Urban planning to be seen more as a co- creation of solutions and concepts on urban problems… …in cooperation with different actors in the society that goes beyond the land-use planning to produce high quality living environments Through piloting on local level, identification of good practices on cross-national level, extensive exchange of knowledge and joint development, the project will… …seek new ways and develop models on how to apply the idea of co-creation by bringing different parties together in the framework of urban planning

Baltic Urban Lab Project Approach, Scope and Policy Considerations Brownfield areas seen as urban labs where new solutions to support more modern and sustainable lifestyles on mobility, services, buildings, energy production, can be tested Urban labs can be understood as collaborations of public- private-people partnerships, in which stakeholders co-create new designs, products and services in real-life environments By integrating the planning (land-use/city) and implementation (solutions/business) processes already in the overall process development and working together from the beginning, higher quality can be reached and basis for urban lab development created  Urban planning moving towards process-orientation and collaboration
