LESSON TWO SIX STEPS TO MAKING GOOD DECISIONS
Presentation transcript:

LESSON THREE ALCOHOL, YOU AND OTHER PEOPLE CHAPTER TWELVE LESSON THREE ALCOHOL, YOU AND OTHER PEOPLE

OBJECTIVES EXPLAIN HOW ALCOHOL CAN LEAD TO BAD DECISIONS AND VIOLENCE. EXPLAIN HOW A PERSON’S DECISION TO DRINK ALCOHOL MAY AFFECT OTHER PEOPLE. IDENTIFY THREE EFFECTS OF FETAL ALCOHOL SYNDROME.

BELLRINGER THINK ABOUT A TIME WHEN YOU MADE A DECISION THAT ULTIMATELY PROVED TO BE UNWISE.

ESSENTIAL QUESTION WHY DOES ALCOHOL MAKE VIOLENCE MORE LIKELY?

DEFINITIONS ALCOHOL EFFECTS A PERSON IN THE FOLLOWING WAYS: 1. ALCOHOL MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO THINK CLEARLY. 2. ALCOHOL AFFECTS MEMORY. 3. ALCOHOL HARMS COORDINATION. 4. ALCOHOL SLOWS REACTIONS. INTOXICATED PEOPLE ARE LESS LIKELY TO THINK ABOUT HOW THEIR DECISIONS WILL INFLUENCE THEIR LIVES. INTOXICATION CAN EASILY LEAD TO DANGEROUS DECISIONS AND DANGEROUS BEHAVIORS. ALCOHOL DOES NOT CAUSE VIOLENCE, BUT IT DOES MAKE VIOLENCE MORE LIKELY. ALCOHOL CAN REDUCE A DRINKER’S SELF-CONTROL. ALCOHOL ALSO MAKES A PERSON MORE LIKELY TO BECOME THE VICTIM OF VIOLENCE. FETAL ALCOHOL SYNDROME IS A GROUP OF BIRTH DEFECTS THAT CAN HAPPEN WHEN A PREGNANT WOMAN DRINKS ALCOHOL.
