Technical seminar on hybrid electric vehicle By: j. Spandana Under the guidence of: Mr.B.Srinivas ANURAG ENGINEERING COLLEGE
ABSTRACT Due to environment and fuel resource concerns, there is a growing demand for EV’s. Development of PE technologies for EV’s assume importance in this content.
WHY HYBRIDS? Increase in population and decrease in natural resources like conventional fuels. Availability of petrol and diesel are decreasing due to over usage. Cost of fuel rises. To Reduce environmental pollution.
INTRODUCTION TO HYBRID ELECTRIC VEHICLE A vehicle that combines two are more sources of power that can directly or indirectly provide propulsion power is a hybrid. A HEV is a type of hybrid vehicle and electric vehicle which combines a conventional ICE propulsion system with an electric propulsion system.
HISTORY The first HEV was developed by Ferdinand Porsche in 1901. The lohner-porsche mixte HEV Toyota prius in Japan in1997

CLASSIFICATION HEV’s can be classified according to the way in which power is supplied to the drive train. 1. Series hybrids 2. Parallel hybrids 3. Series-Parallel hybrids
SERIES HYBRID In this the vehicle is driven by electric motors with a generator set providing the electric power. SERIES-HYBRID
PARALLEL HYBRID In this the ICE and the electric motor are both connected to mechanical transmission and can simultaneously transmit power to drive the wheels.
SERIES-PARALLEL HYBRID The ICE can drive the wheels mechanically but can also be disconnected from the drive train so that only the motor-generator propels the vehicle. SERIES-PARALLEL HYBRID
HEV OPERATION MODES A typical full hybrid drive system has six basic modes of operation. Electric drive mode Hybrid/electric assist mode Idle stop mode Regenerative braking mode Engine starting mode Battery charging mode
ADVANTAGES HEV’s have lighter engines, consume less fuel than conventional engines and can run on alternative fuels. Regenerative braking also one advantage. Money is saved due to less use of fuel. Less exhaust and environmental friendly.
DIS ADVANTAGES High initial cost. Heavy because of heavy batteris used in these cars. Risky in accidents
APPLICATIONS These are more efficiently used in city drives where traffic is more. These are also used in military cars. Some of hybrid electric vehicles are Toyota Prius, Honda Insight.
CONCLUSION use the hybrid save the atmosphere
