New-look Annual Reports Incident Reports One of the real benefits from the National Network is the opportunity to discuss ideas with other regions – prompt to refresh slightly the Annual Report came from the Southwest – evolution not revolution – twofold aim: Get survey results out much quicker (typically now issued from July – October, but usually reporting on spring survey), but without needing to wait for all surveys to be complete Incorporate information from autumn survey (typically not really used much at present other than possible a pre-storm survey)

Survey Unit – incremental report Starts off with the date of the previous autumn survey

Simplest report is NAI site…. One survey per year, so total report can be issued to the coastal engineer immediately following the survey Comments incorporated with the results of the Survey Unit (rather than the text isolated from the maps) Includes information following feedback from engineers e.g. MLWS level, and quantities of change

Plus the usual profile maps (spring to spring and spring to baseline)

And usual maps…. After each survey, the Survey Unit report will be completed (and sent to the coastal engineer, by arrangement), loaded to a new section on the website. In this way, the survey results are available within a few weeks of the survey. In the autumn, the report for each Survey Unit will compiled, with the usual information (wave reports etc.) into a formal Annual Report for each coastal sub-cell, as at present…. Should be a quick job as all the main work has already been completed. Aim to start rolling these out after the 2016 Spring surveys – may be a bit of an experiment at first, as usual we are open to suggestions from our coastal engineers.

Incident Reports Second change in the survey reporting that we do sprang from request by EA coastal team at Blandford – really good idea, so discussions with coastal engineers, propose to roll out the reports in both the Southeast and Southwest Regions. To be done in a proper “incident” e.g. severe flood warning, or unexpected coastal flooding etc.

Report is to serve 2 purposes – firstly to summarise quickly the survey results, and to provide information useful to the coastal engineer to manage the incident, and secondly, to serve as a long-term record of what happened.

Joint Return Periods JRP will be derived from EA extreme tide levels (few years ago – known to be inaccurate in some places though) and 3-hourly DWR from deployment to end 2015.
