A Divided Nation

Battle Plan: Organize the Troops Each member of the team will be drafted into state regiments (consisting of 4-5 soldiers) who will fight in the Union (Northern) or Confederate (Southern) army.

Battle Plan: Organize the Troops Each state regiment will work to earn the respect of their general.  The stronger the regiment performs the more soldiers the generals will award them.  You will be working to increase the number of soldiers in your regiment, which will in turn increase the size of your army.  Each regiment must immediately choose a commander, secretary, quartermaster and a scout.

Expand your Regiment Regiments can gain or lose troops in the following ways: Homework completion Quality of assignments Discipline of your regiment Luck (game cards and role of the dice) Victories in head to head battles of knowledge Victories on battle tasks Preparedness for battle Spy missions… Victories in Civil War Day battles Be ready for the unexpected!

Day 1…Plan of Attack! Goal #1 – Role Assignments Establish roles for each person in your regiment. Commander, Secretary, Quartermaster, or scout. If there are more than 4 in your group, please double up on one assignment. Goal #2 – Regimental Assignment Sheet… 500 enlistments Please prepare a 1-page document that has… a. your state name on the top b. your state emblem under your state name c. 3 facts about your state during the first half of the 19th century d. a list of each person’s name and assignment Please print in color and give to your General. Goal #3 – Finding all soldiers in your state regiment… 1000 enlistments Enlistments will be given to each state that can provide the general with… a. a full list of all soldiers in your state regiment b. first and last names must be included c. This must be presented to General Knoedler by 2:30 on Wednesday. Goal #4 – Create a State Name Tag / Banner / Flag …500 enlistments The name tag MUST be placed on your tables at the beginning of each day. This can be done using a folder or other creative means. Casualties will occur if the name tag is not displayed.

Your regiment or company must design a game piece Your regiment or company must design a game piece.  This piece must be no larger than 8 ½” x 11”, and 16” in height. Your game piece must include your state name, 3 facts about your state’s role in the 1850’s and 60’s, and have an element of creativity, which sets it apart from the other regiments.  Your state will brainstorm ideas in class TODAY and compile information and materials. Work hard, be prepared, and stay organized. Battle Objective: Your regiment or company must design a game piece.  This piece must be no larger than 8 ½” x 11”, and 16” in height. Your game piece must include your state name, 3 facts about your state’s role in the 1850’s and 60’s, and have an element of creativity which sets it apart from the other regiments.  Your state will brainstorm ideas in class TODAY and compile information and materials. Work hard, be prepared, and stay organized. 3000 soldiers will be awarded to the best regiment in each army. Enlistments will be awarded to each regiment based on the placement of your game-piece.
