ELA 10 Grammar Gerunds Part 1

What is a Gerund? A gerund is a verbal that acts as a noun. They always end in –ing and always act as a noun.

Gerunds can be used as… A subject Singing is my favorite pastime. A direct object – subj + verb + what?/who? = direct object - My mother-in-law makes baking a lot of fun. Indirect Objects When someone [or something] gets the direct object, that word is the indirect object. - Sara gave playing games her full attention.

Gerunds can be used as… Object of a Preposition Their well-behaved dog showed signs of careful training. Appositive – Removable? Brady’s profession, advertising, is very competitive.
